I have been active in my own training and fitness endeavors since the young age of 12 and I am still active with over 35 plus years of experience. I started at a time when there wasn't any internet to search and learn from. Instead I started learning from fitness magazines, books from the library, and purchasing books from the book store, and plain old trial and error. Where I lived bodybuilding or exercising in general was not a sought after practice so to speak because it was still somewhat new and no one really knew anything about it except that exercise, conditioning, and resistance training was utilized in sports, and then it was still primarily a guessing game for coaches. It wasn't mainstream like in today's times and people are more aware of its benefits for everyone of all ages.
When I started my parents purchased me a universal weight machine and then I would use part time jobs such as summer jobs from school to purchase more weights and exercise equipment from yard sales and people looking to clear out his or her garage/room, etc. I then built my own home gym and set up preset barbells, dumbbells and had several different benches so that I didn't have to spend a lot of time loading and unloading weights for the next exercise. I then started learning how to program exercises and set up routines, etc. again, trial and error. I would take and write notes and keep records/training logs to keep up with my progress. I also became interested in bodybuilding competition and over time earned 14 titles. But I wanted to learn more and started to focus heavily on nutrition and how to apply it correctly and to eat healthy. From there I went on to learn how to use exercise for post rehabilitation such as "exercise therapy" to learn and better understand how to address injuries where i utilize that practice today on some of my current clients who have had stroke, heart attack, car accidents to working with diabetics, Parkinson's disease, and working with expecting mothers. I have also worked with young individuals entering into military service needing to cut or gain weight. I have practiced and learned in many facets and am still an active student in fitness everyday.
